Richard Matthews began his career in the 1970s at Phillips & Drew, progressing swiftly through the money markets to develop a specialism in FX arbitrage. When the Financial Futures market opened in 1982, he spent nearly two decades building and leading one of London’s largest brokerage and trading operations. He has served on the boards of several money broking, FX and futures companies, and for the past several years has been active in the London marine insurance market, introducing and developing yacht and marine business.

Julian Jesson
Marine Insurance Specialist
Julian Jesson’s passion for the sea began on the North Norfolk Coast, where he learned to sail as a teenager before becoming a keen dinghy sailor and windsurfer. At 25, whilst trading on the LIFFE floor, he sponsored a British attempt at the World Speed Sailing Record — a 20-metre planning catamaran with a 24-metre wing mast pushing the then-standing record of 49.52 knots.
Following a successful career in financial futures and the sale of his trading software business in 2000, Julian moved fully into the marine world. Over the following 18 years he worked on yacht-building projects up to 40 metres, partnered with the Taiwan Government to help establish its national boat show, ran 49er Grand Prix events with Julian Bethwaite, founded The Penghu Regatta, and managed the Chinese Taipei Olympic 49er sailing campaign ahead of the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He also imported over 50 Beneteaus, Lagoons and Azimuts into Taiwan, frequently commissioning and sailing the vessels personally.
Returning to the UK, Julian reconnected with his former mentor Richard Matthews to bring that rare combination of institutional market experience and deep practical seamanship to the world of bespoke yacht insurance.
